A recent
TCPalm editorial laments the fact that volunteerism rates in Florida have been much lower than those in most other U.S. states. Among other reasons, the author suggests, "Weather may also be a factor. Why give up time for volunteer work when one can be fishing or enjoying the beach or some other outdoor activity?"
But it doesn't have to be an either/or choice. Volunteering can be one of the most fun ways to spend time outdoors!
Gardening, staffing outdoor events, coaching sports teams, washing cars for a fundraiser, painting, maintaining nature trails, marching in rallies, conducting surveys... These are only some of the ways people might choose to spend time in their communities on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
