Description:
IT Project Manager
New York City
The New Teacher Project (TNTP) is a national non-profit consulting firm founded to address central education reform challenges facing our public schools, specifically the recruitment and preparation of outstanding new teachers and the creation of school environments that maximize those teachers' impact on student achievement. TNTP partners with universities, school districts, states, and other organizations to improve and enhance their efforts to recruit, select, train and support new teachers.
We are currently seeking an Information Technology Project Manager to join our Information Technology (IT) department. The IT Project Manager reports to the Vice President of Information Technology and will be located at our National Office in New York City.
The Information Technology (IT) Department
The IT Department of The New Teacher Project is a small, dynamic team which services three business lines, seventeen contract sites, and maintains six different software solutions of moderate to high complexity. We work directly with our internal clients to provide exceptional customer service and manage near-shore and offshore vendors who provide programming services. Over the last three months, the applications we host have received over 5 million hits and 66,000 visitors. We are constantly building enhancements and new systems to support the evolving business process of our internal clients. We offer a challenging environment where creative thinkers with strong technical knowledge can flourish and utilize diverse skills.
Role and Responsibilities
The IT Project Manager is responsible for managing the development and deployment of new web-based systems and enhancements to existing systems. This position will provide strategic vision on how to solve business problems. Specifically, the IT Project Manager will:
• Build project plans for upgrades to application systems across the organization
• Manage the budget for new project developments and ensure on-time delivery of projects
• Be the primary point-person for system testing and reporting, ensuring that all applications and upgrades are working properly before a release
• Manage relationships with on-shore and off-shore vendors to ensure development is completed on time and within budget
• Participate in the development of new IT strategies, specifically around improvements to the application development methodologies and internal IT processes.
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $70,000 or commensurate with experience in a similar position. We also offer a motivated team of colleagues, a collegial atmosphere that values professional development, a comprehensive benefits plan effective on the first day of employment – including medical, dental, vision, disability, generous vacation time and a 403(b) plan – as well as the opportunity to impact the direction of a growing, mission-driven company that is committed to the success of our nation’s children.
Additional Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates who believe deeply in our organization's mission, thrive in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment, and demonstrate a record of achievement. Successful candidates will have experience managing moderately complex web-based application development cycles and will also demonstrate:
• 2 – 3 years of project management experience
• Solid comprehension of web-based, database-driven applications
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Project or similar project management software
• Working knowledge of SQL or a willingness to learn
• Working knowledge of use cases or a willingness to learn
Candidates with familiarity with PMBOK or SDLC, one to two years of application development experience, and a working knowledge of SQL Server 2003/2005 and Windows Server 2000/2005 are strongly desired
