E-Meeting
E-meetings allow you to conduct online meetings through e-mail, anytime and anywhere, without the hassle or cost of other communication technologies. They give members of the group the freedom to respond on their own schedule, and are an easy way of documenting brainstorms. E-meetings are a great tool to exchange ideas with group members who can’t meet face-to-face.

Subject: e-meeting: Examples of organizations or tools working collaboratively across issues
Hello Practical Dreamers Group!
Anita and I are sending around this email to solicit examples of organizations, tools or structures that encourage people to:
a) work collaboratively
b) work across issues and/or
c) work without a specific issue
We hope to look to these examples as inspiration and guidance for our own group. It would be great if you could send us your initial thoughts by tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Thanks for your help!
Tracy

"Participatory action research" or "action research" is a method for collaboration between academic researchers and local community members; the point is to conduct collaborative research towards social change.

It can also be used for collaboration across issues and between people on both sides of an issue. One of the tools that action research uses is the "search conference":

If you want more/better info, I can definitely find it for you; my adviser at Cornell was in the field and I read his book.

Erring on the side of providing more examples, even if they're not what you're looking for...
Working across issues:
Campus Compact's Dialogue Resources: http://www.compact.org/clece/detail.php?id=4
Portsmouth Listens: http://www.portsmouthlistens.org/
For some reason feels kinda related to me: http://www.nolayurp.com/ (site about bringing young professionals to post-Katrina New Orleans - sort of transcends work sector barriers. Maybe not related at all. :))
Working without a specific issue:
OrangeBand: http://www.convergingvoices.com/oband/
Some interesting stuff about creating "the commons" - http://www.buildingmovement.org/artman/publish/tips.shtml
Dropping Knowledge
Local sites such as WashingtonHeightsOnline, the Moscow wiki, etc…

I just met with a really awesome person from this organization: http://www.timebanks.org/
They are all about "strengthening communities through reciprocity." Check out the section on "Creating Social Change with Time Banking" here: http://www.timebanks.org/going-deeper.htm
Also maybe a bit tangential, but worth checking out, is the org that Holly now works for: http://www.pledgebank.com/ ....The idea here is that if someone plans to do something good for the world, they are more likely to go through with their plans and more likely to cause a ripple effect if they get a number of other people to do the same thing. A different model of connecting people without one specific issue in mind.
